Happy Baby Pose (Ananda Balasana)

The Happy Baby Pose, or Ananda Balasana, is a calming and playful yoga pose that stretches the inner thighs, hips, and groin while promoting a sense of relaxation and joy. This pose is often included in yoga routines to release tension and enhance flexibility.

How to Perform the Happy Baby Pose:

  1. Start Position: Begin by lying on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the mat.
  2. Lift the Legs: Gently lift your feet off the mat, bringing your knees towards your chest.
  3. Grab the Feet: Reach your hands through the inside of your legs and grasp the outer edges of your feet. Keep your arms on the inside of your knees.
  4. Open the Hips: Gently open your knees wider than your torso, directing them towards your armpits. Your shins should be perpendicular to the floor, and your ankles should be stacked over your knees.
  5. Press Down: Using your hands, lightly press your feet down while simultaneously pulling them towards your armpits. This action deepens the stretch in your hips and inner thighs.
  6. Hold the Position: Relax into the pose, breathing deeply and evenly. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or longer if comfortable.
  7. Release: Gently release your feet and lower your legs back to the mat to exit the pose.
