Reclining Butterfly Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)
The Reclining Butterfly Pose, or Supta Baddha Konasana, is a restorative and gentle yoga pose that opens the hips, stretches the inner thighs, and promotes deep relaxation. This pose is ideal for calming the mind, relieving stress, and improving flexibility in the lower body.
How to Perform the Reclining Butterfly Pose:
- Start Position: Begin by lying flat on your back with your legs extended and arms resting at your sides.
- Bring the Soles Together: Bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together, allowing your knees to open out to the sides. Your feet should be close to your pelvis, forming a diamond shape with your legs.
- Support the Knees: If needed, place cushions, yoga blocks, or folded blankets under your knees or thighs for additional support and comfort.
- Relax the Arms: Extend your arms out to the sides with your palms facing up, or place your hands on your abdomen or chest for a more grounding effect.
- Close the Eyes: Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths, allowing your body to relax into the pose. Feel the gentle stretch in your inner thighs and the opening of your hips.
- Hold the Position: Stay in the pose for 1 to 5 minutes, or longer if comfortable, focusing on your breath and letting go of any tension.
- Release: To come out of the pose, gently use your hands to guide your knees back together. Extend your legs back to the mat and rest for a moment before continuing with your practice.
