Research shows that adults spend an average of six hours each day sitting or lying down, with only 28% engaging in minimal physical activity. This sedentary lifestyle is contributing to rising obesity rates worldwide. As a result, 36% of people worry about the long-term effects of inactivity on their health and wellbeing.
To encourage more physical activity, fitness expert Laura Williams has partnered with Vitabiotics Jointace to highlight the exercise routines adults should adopt at various stages of life. She emphasizes the importance of establishing healthy habits early, particularly for those under 30, to ensure lifelong physical and mental well-being.
For individuals in their 40s, focusing on bone health and pelvic floor function becomes crucial, while those in their 60s are encouraged to prioritize a well-rounded fitness routine, including muscle-building exercises and regular aerobic activity.
“Even a small amount of exercise can have remarkable benefits at any age,” said a spokesperson for Vitabiotics Jointace. “There are exercises for everyone, from high-impact activities like running and weightlifting to gentler options like walking or yoga. All of these are valuable for your mind, body, and joint health.”
The study revealed that walking, swimming, and running were the most popular forms of exercise across all age groups. Notably, 85% of people agreed that it’s never too late to start exercising.
The report also explored the reasons people often skip exercise, with tight schedules, lack of motivation, and bad weather topping the list. However, 37% of those who skipped a workout reported feeling sluggish afterward, and 29% noticed a decrease in flexibility.
The spokesperson added, “We’ve all been there—putting off exercise for another day. But skipping it often leads to an immediate drop in energy and motivation.” They concluded by stressing the importance of combining an active lifestyle with a healthy diet and good nutrition to maintain overall health and well-being at every stage of life.
