Former cricketer and 2007 T20 World Cup winner Joginder Sharma took part in the ‘FIT India Sundays on Cycle’ event, promoting fitness and an active lifestyle. The cycling initiative started from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, covering key landmarks such as India Gate ‘C’ Hexagon, Kartavya Path, and Vijay Chowk before looping back.
Now serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana, Joginder led nearly 1,000 cyclists, including employees from various government departments such as the Ministry of Railways, Employee Provident Fund Organisation, and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Joginder expressed his appreciation for the initiative. “This is a fantastic effort by the Government of India to encourage people across the country to stay fit. We cycled for around 6-7 kilometers with participants of all ages, from children to senior citizens. I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Sports Authority of India for promoting fitness and an active lifestyle,” he told SAI Media.
Accompanying him in the campaign were squash stars Ramit Tandon, Anahat Singh, and coach Gregory Gaultier, championing causes like #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution.
Anahat Singh shared her enthusiasm, saying, “It was amazing to see so many people come together for fitness. As an athlete, I know how important it is to maintain overall well-being, including fitness and nutrition.” Ramit Tandon added, “The Fit India movement is a great way to encourage people to stay active. Seeing so many individuals wake up early for this event was truly inspiring.”
Meanwhile, in Porbandar, Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya led another cycling event with 650 participants, including officials from multiple state and central government departments. The event aimed to raise awareness about fitness and pollution, reinforcing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
“For a strong nation, we must prioritize health,” said Dr. Mandaviya, encouraging citizens to adopt cycling as a daily habit.
The Porbandar event saw participation from key organizations, including the Gujarat Police, Indian Navy, Indian Postal Department, and Central Industrial Security Force. Notable figures such as Rear Admiral Satish Vasudev, District Magistrate SD Dhanani, and MLA Arjun Modhwadia were also in attendance.
With such initiatives gaining momentum, the FIT India movement continues to inspire people across the country to embrace healthier lifestyles.
