Straight Arm Stretch – Left
The Straight Arm Stretch is an effective exercise designed to improve flexibility and relieve tension in the shoulder, arm, and upper back muscles. This stretch is particularly beneficial for individuals who experience stiffness or discomfort in the shoulders and upper body due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, or repetitive movements.
How to Perform the Straight Arm Stretch – Left:
- Start Position: Stand or sit comfortably with your spine straight and your feet hip-width apart. Relax your shoulders and let your arms hang naturally by your sides.
- Extend the Left Arm: Raise your left arm straight out in front of you at shoulder height, keeping it parallel to the floor. Your palm should face down or inward.
- Support with the Right Hand: Use your right hand to gently grasp your left elbow or forearm. This will provide support and help you deepen the stretch.
- Pull the Arm Across: Gently pull your left arm across your chest towards your right side. You should feel a stretch in your left shoulder and the upper part of your arm.
- Keep the Arm Straight: Ensure that your left arm remains straight and your shoulder stays down and away from your ear.
- Hold the Stretch: Hold the position for 20-30 seconds, breathing deeply and evenly. Focus on relaxing your shoulder and arm muscles while maintaining the stretch.
- Release: To release the stretch, slowly bring your left arm back to the starting position. Repeat the stretch on the right side if desired.
